Original Summary
They tell you their startup idea, you give them 2-3 examples of similar startups out there doing exactly what they described, and they'll say something like: "yh but my app has this feature and that feature" or "ours is targeting a bigger audience"? That's not confidence. It's ego. They're coming in with the idea of being "original" and first-to-market. Which completely misses the point of building a real startup. You can be the first in the market. You can even be the only person there, but it won't matter if no one is there to buy. The only advantage of being first to market is early monopoly and fast recognition, and even that is not enough to scale up. Speed often requires that you learn from others. If someone has already built your product, you have to copy them. Not their features, but their approach. Learn from their success, what they did best. If you don't, someone else will, while you're still building nice to haves. submitted by /u/blarckat [link] [comments]
