Original Summary

Basically the title. I am looking for some healthy pushback. Pretty sure I'm gonna do it soon but I need to hear what strangers on the internet think first. Personal Background: - I currently work as a software engineer at a startup making decent money. The work is good but it's often high demand - which is fine if I didn't have this constant desire to build things after work. - I already work 10-12 hours a day that include my full time job plus the time I spend on projects outside of that (mostly the app) - I have a decent savings that could last me a few years (don't plan on draining the whole thing) and also been blessed with family I can fallback on. App Background: - B2C - I started building this back in 2023. It was my first app which is why I think it took so long to get here. I've learned a lot since then. During that time there's been other competitors but one cropped up at the beginning of the year and within 3 months seems to have numbers that indicate they "made it" (2k reviews, circa 50k installs) - I get around 30 installs a day and have a high onboarding completion. Retention and conversion are low and I want to get that up. - In my mind the competitor(s) have already validated the idea App Plans: - Keep iterating on product to increase retention and conversion - Massive organic marketing campaign to feed top of the funnel. I'm going to eat, sleep, and poop marketing every freaking day. - Build a personal brand as a moat (probably on youtube documenting my journey. I like videography and have always wanted to document my stuff). Also might get more high quality leads. - Keep an open mind and pivot when necessary (either within or without the app) Why: - I don't want to sell my time for money. Each hour at work feels like I'm losing on opportunity cost. I think I'll be dissatisfied with every w-2 job I have until I try and either "make it" or reality beats this dream out of me. - I need more time. Between building, marketing and personal brand, there's just not enough hours in a day to move as fast as I want. I see what I do in 2 hours and wonder what I could get done in 5 times that every day. Everything I learned in the 3 years building could've been done in a few months. Marketing is the next phase. - I already work 10-12 hour days as mentioned before. I don't want to necessarily work less. - As mentioned before I think the competitors have validated. I feel like I have decent installs for barely any marketing. Now it's just a matter of improving and scaling. - I'm young and have safety nets. If I don't do it now, I probably won't until I'm 50. - I want to Why not: - Leaving a good paying job that any normal person would love. - I'm married. (We've talked and my wife is supportive) - Difficulty returning to the workforce is a concern along with ruining my "professional momentum" since I graduated. - Would have to hold off
