Original Summary

Hey r/SideProject . I started Ren in April as a side project because I wanted a PT but couldn't justify £50 a session. Three weeks ago it went live on iOS. What it does: - Builds your weekly workouts and rewrites them when life happens (tell it you've tweaked your knee and it adapts the whole week) - Plans your meals around your targets and the foods you actually like - Turns the meal plan into a shopping list - Logs food from a photo of your plate - Has a coach you can chat to about any of it Stack: React Native/Expo, Supabase (auth, Postgres, edge functions), Claude for the coaching, RevenueCat for subscriptions. A few things I learned along the way: - The AI features were the easy part. Password resets, email confirmation links opening inside Outlook's browser, and App Store review took far longer than I expected. - Keep every API key on the server. I route all AI calls through edge functions so nothing billable ships in the app. - For an AI app, free trials cost real money. Every trial user runs up API spend, so I watch trial-to-paid much more closely than downloads. - Cache anything you generate. AI meal images were my biggest variable cost until I started generating them only when someone actually opens that day. It's £7.99/month with a free trial: https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/ren/id6764273672 You can also check out my attempts at marketing on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/coached_by_ren/ I'd really value feedback on: Is it clear what it does from the App Store page? What would stop you trying it? Anything you'd want an AI coach to do that it doesn't? Happy to answer questions about the build submitted by /u/J-Hizz1 [link] [comments]
