Original Summary

Following up on my earlier post. While marketing our app on TikTok, I started tapping the bio links of other accounts that promote apps. Most point straight to the App Store or Play Store, so I tested them on different devices from inside TikTok. What I found: Link type Device Result App Store Desktop Opens App Store Android Opens Play Store iPhone Opens App Store iPhone White page, "Action can't be completed" Play Store Android "Potentially unsafe" warning, then a listing you can't install from ("Open in Play Store" also errors) Out of the hundreds accounts I checked, about 40% had a link that fails for a big part of their viewers. What surprised me most is that these aren't dead accounts. A lot of them post regularly and clearly want downloads. My theory on why they never fixed it: They tested once on their own phone, or on the wrong OS, saw it open, and moved on A direct store link has no analytics, so they can't see the people who hit the error and left The Android case looks like it half works, so it's easy to miss I haven't been able to confirm which account types are affected. It seems to behave better on some verified business accounts than on personal ones, but that's an observation, not a rule. Quick check if you promote an app on TikTok: open your own profile inside TikTok on an iPhone and an Android phone and tap your bio link. Try both store links on both phones. Don't test from a desktop browser, since that hides the problem. Has anyone else noticed this? And if you tested yours, what did you see? (For context, this is the problem behind pleaseopen.me , the free tool I built after hitting it myself. Happy to share details if anyone's curious.) submitted by /u/M_Burry_42069 [link] [comments]
