Small win, but it's my first real dollar from this thing so I wanted to write it down. Built VoxScribe, a local voice dictation app for Windows (hold a hotkey, talk, it types into whatever app has focus). Python, PySide6, faster-whisper running fully offline, no cloud API, no server costs on my end. Free and open source (MIT), with an optional $14 one-time Pro unlock for bigger models and text snippets. Numbers so far, about 6 weeks in: 5 GitHub stars, 30 total downloads across all versions. Small. Today I posted about it on a few subreddits. Got some hostile "AI scam" comments on one, expected that going in. But one comment was from a nurse who'd used $2,000 Dragon Medical professionally, gave detailed feedback comparing it to tools she'd actually used at work, and bought Pro on the spot, unprompted. No ad spend, no email list, just posting honestly and one person deciding it solved a real problem for her. Biggest lesson: the hostile comments got way more attention than the genuine one, but only the genuine one converted. Noise isn't signal.
