Over the past few weeks, I decided to figure out how LLMs actually work under the hood. That turned into a small interactive guide where we start from scratch, go through all the core mechanisms, and train our own micro LLM. The first version took one night on a Mac. For a larger one, I had to rent an H100. The model is pretty dumb, of course, but every mechanism is explained and demonstrated, which feels like plenty for learning purposes.
